under the plane. (Project 1947)
Fran Ridge: Aug. 18, 1947; Nr. Mountain Home, Idaho (BBU)
12 p.m. United Airlines Flight 147, a Salt Lake City to Spokane trip, encountered two flying discs. The pilot and copilot related their story only on the condition that neither of their names would be made public. The airliner was beginning a letdown in the vicinity of Mountain Home for the approach to Boise and flying at an altitude of 8,000'. The captain saw the two objects, which appeared to him to be the shape of "skeet targets", pass beneath the plane estimated at 2,000' below him and traveling almost due south. Maneuvering the plane to keep the objects in sight he estimated the discs were approximately five feet in diameter. The co-pilot clocked the objects for 15 seconds and calculated they had gone four miles in that time, indicating 960 mph. There is nothing in the Project Blue Book files for this case but Dan Wilson was able to find the newspaper article. Detailed reports and documents articles/470818mtnhome_article.png (Dan Wilson) |
