Huge Object Rushes Up From Ocean Surface February 21, 1951 Heading Toward Newfoundland from Iceland Francis Ridge: The Incident #26 report describes the event in more detail, but it started about 0300. Lt. George Williams was piloting a Navy Fleet Logistics airplane cruising at 10,000 feet. At first he thought the object was a ship and then called the copilot forward. Nine witnesses saw the object approach at terrific closing rate. It veered to their port side and hovered momentarily, then rose at extremely rapid rate and disappeared off their port quarter. Size was estimated at 200 feet in diameter, flat elliptical or cigar shaped by side view and seemed to be producing a ring of red-orange exhaust all along the edge. The Moon was also visible and almost full. This indicates Bethune and his crew were not making up a story based on someone else's experience since their's was 11 days prior and that the Keyhoe rendition (Cmdr. Dewey Fournet spoke to the US Naval Intellignece Class IX as
part of his duties. Several Naval officers related UFO experiences to
Fournet which they had previous had. One of the officers, Lt
George P. Williams, told Fournet that he piloted a Navy Fleet Logistics
Air Wing aircraft aid he and 9 other crewmen had encountered a UFO over
the North Atlantic on 21 Feb 1951. They were heading towards
Newfoundland at 10,000 feet when they encountered the object. Williams
mentioned that he saw the moon prior to seeing the UFO. Except for the
date, Williams' account sounds like Bethune's....Bill Pitts had
Fournet's brief case which was filled with material he took when he
left the Service. Bill let Tom and I copy the material. Tom was
of the opinion that Lt. George Williams' account does not relate to
Bethunes' because of the date.
