In April 1952 there was another nationwide air defense alert caused by contrails seen in Alaska and contacts coming in over the Atlantic. General Chidlaw wrote an after action report "Next Time the Real Thing." The GOC magazine Aircraft Flash had a sanitized version.  The history of the ADC had a copy of this report but the quality of the microfilm was so poor that it was very hard to read. Robert Todd to the rescue. He had a file with copies made off of the microfilm and must have puzzled over it for a long time probably ruining his eye sight, but he typed it up and left us a legible copy that I just found (May 24, 2009) in another of his files. The report shows what a low level of readiness the ADC had in early 1952.

In 1961 NICAP published an article entitled, "Accidental War Danger Increasing" (see link below), which I put up on the NICAP site AND The Nuclear Connection Project site several years ago. This was one of our main concerns and leverage to get congrsssional hearings going.
