Fran Ridge:
In Feb. of 2006, while searching the Archive for other case items, I came across a letter by Dr. James E. McDonald to Maj. Quintanilla  (Project Blue Book's  Director) where he mentioned their second unsuccessful attempt to locate any record of "the B-36 incident". Dan Wilson informed me that he had spoken with Pestalozzi's wife (her husband had passed away) who said her husband had written a small book about (guess what?) - contact with alien beings! Dr. Hynek had said that a major report was missing, and this was probably the one.

Brad Sparks:
May 1, 1952; Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona (BBU)
9:10 a.m. Base Intelligence Officer Major Rudolph Pestalozzi, Butonne, and several others saw 2 shiny round 20-25-foot objects rapidly overtake then pace a B-36 in E-W flight at 20,000 ft at about 50° ±10° elevation, then depart at high speed, one object stopping to hover briefly, before disappearing, no sound, no trail. B-36 crew also saw objects and interrogated on landing. (Case file missing.) (Hynek UFO Rpt pp. 109-112; FUFOR Index)

Dr. J. Allen Hynek:
This case is a classic. The late Dr. James McDonald made a valiant attempt in get details from original witnesses after discovering that a major report, submitted to Blue Book by the “UFO Officer” (who was one of the witnesses!) at Davis-Monthan, was missing.  A small part of this was apparently recovered and now appears in the Blue Book microfilms.

Dan Wilson:
One of the best B-36/UFO encounters!!! Much activity on that day, May 1, 1952--five UFOs seen at George AFB, May 1, 1952, --a nuclear test at the Nevada Test Site, May 1, 1952--mentioned in the George AFB, report.
