Case Directory Category 1, Distant Encounters |

|
A Hynek
Classification of Distant Encounter is usually
an incident involving an object more than 500
feet from the witness. At night it is
classified as a "nocturnal light" (NL) and
during the day as a "daylight disc" (DD). The
size of the object or the viewing conditions
may render the object in greater detail but
yet not qualify the sighting as a Close
Encounter which is an object within
500'. |
Fran Ridge: Aug. 1, 1952; 4-miles south of Vincennes, Indiana 10:38 a.m. Hiliary Vieck reported to the Vincennes Sun-Commercial (and to me later when I personally investigated the case) that he and his two brothers, Charles and Larry, heard jets flying over the city that Friday morning and were looking in the sky for them when they spotted the saucer. "Vieck said it was 'real silvery' in color, was zig-zagging very fast across the heavens, going southwest. It was visible for about 20-seconds. Thirteen minutes later Air Force jets were chasing a UFO in Ohio. |
