Brad Sparks:
Aug. 17, 1952; E of Abilene, Texas (BBU)
4:49 p.m. USAF pilot of T-6D [from Webb AFB?] saw an oblong polished metal object climbing at 500 mph. (Project 1947; FUFOR Index)

Dan Wilson:
Aug. 17, 1952; E of Abilene, Texas
4:49 p.m. CST. Capt. James H. Perry flying a T-6 aircraft at 8000 feet observed an object that appeared to be of highly polished metal, oblong in shape traveling at a terrific rate of speed well over 500 mph just below the clouds and was climbing. The object was slightly smaller than a B-25 aircraft. According to the witness narrative the object covered approximately 30 miles in the 3 seconds observed.

Martin Shough:
Well over 500 mph? You can say that again! Try 36,000 mph = 30  miles in 3 seconds. Capt. Henry's impressions of speed are grossly inconsistent, but the latter could be correct even an underestimate if the object was a daylight fireball. The brightness might be mistaken for a specular sun reflection on polished metal. The appearance of "climbing" through the broken cloud would have to be an illusion of course, but that's not impossible as the sighting was only fleeting.
