Ridge: The case was written off by Blue Book as a balloon, at least in the sighting listing. Hardly a valid explanation if one looks at the details by these commercial pilots who are familiar with balloons and what they can and can't do. Brad Sparks: Sept. 13, 1956; S Calif., near Santa Barbara (BBU) 9:35 [9:34?] p.m. United Airlines Flight 459 crew saw a star-like object stationary then moving. (Project 1947; FUFOR Index) Dan Wilson: Sept. 13, 1956; Stockton, California At 9:34 p.m. PST, the pilot of United Airlines Flight 459 (DC-4) flying at 9,000 feet observed a star-like object that appeared to be stationary directly over Stockton, California. The object then began to move east at a high rate of speed. The Captain of United Flight 736, Stockton Radio and Monterey Navy also reported the sighting, all giving a similar description. Two F-86D's were later scrambled with negative results. Duration: 1 minute. Perhaps longer, according to the JOINT MESSAGE FORM which says the pilot first observed the object over Santa Barbara which is nearly 300 miles to the south of Stockton.
