Classification of Distant Encounter is usually
an incident involving an object more than 500
feet from the witness. At night it is
classified as a "nocturnal light" (NL) and
during the day as a "daylight disc" (DD). The
size of the object or the viewing conditions
may render the object in greater detail but
yet not qualify the sighting as a Close
Encounter which is an object within
500'. |
| Dan Wilson: Jan. 25, 1965; Bedford, Virginia (BB) 10:55 a.m. local. A woman named Butler while hanging out clothes observed a square object the size of a football field. The object appeared to be made of aluminum and had small projections on the sides. The object appeared to be at a very low altitude and was traveling east to west at what appeared to be a very slow speed. The length of observation was 3-5 minutes. The observer seemed to be competent. Two UFO sightings were reported to the 649th Radar Squadron on the same day |
