10:00 p.m. local time. A visual sighting of an object was
called in to Finley AFS. The object was described as 20 feet long,
egg-shaped, red yellow and green in color. Airmen at the station
observed an object to the NW. A radar return was picked up by the 756th
Radar Squadron (SAGE) at 270 degrees at around five miles from the
station. Two F-89 fighters were scrambled from Duluth to investigate.
When the F-89's got close to the object it moved up and away to the
west. This was confirmed by visual and radar contact. The object had
moved west to about 15 miles range. The total length of the observation
was 3 hours.
