Sparks: Oct. 21, 1957; RAF Gaydon [North Luffenham?], Warwickshire, England (BBU) 9:18 p.m. RAF pilot flying Meteor fighter had near collision with object near atomic base, 6 lights emerged when fighter approached, object disappeared suddenly, ground radar tracking confirmed sighting. (Project 1947; FUFOR Index; Mary Castner/CUFOS) Dan Wilson: Oct. 21, 1957; RAF Gaydon, Warwickshire, England (BBU) 9:18 p.m. local time. RAF Flying Officer D. W. Sweeney flying a Meteor jet fighter at 28,000 feet west from RAF Station at North Luffenham almost collided with an object which he said was moving slowly and showing six lights. After taking violent evasive action Sweeney approached the object from starboard side. As he closed in on the object the lights went out and the object vanished. Sweeney estimated that his aircraft was directly over Gaydon where atom-bomber crews train in Valiants. A radar sighting at RAF Station Langtoft confirmed that the object was at approximately 28,000 feet over Gaydon.
