According to the Virginia Pilot News, the collision occurred about
60 miles southeast of Oceana, Virginia, on April 23rd.

NAS OCEANA, Va. (NNS) -- Two Navy F/A-18A
Hornets collided
in mid-air April 22 during a training mission 35 miles off the
coast of North Carolina. Both aviators, assigned to Composite
Fighter Squadron Twelve (VFC-12), recovered control of the
aircraft and safely returned to NAS Oceana.
One aircraft suffered damage to its nose-cone,
right engine
and canopy. The other Hornet sustained damage to its left wing
and left tail area. The pilots, LCDR Greg S. Anderson and LCDR
William G. Stubbs, were treated for minor injuries and released
from the hospital.
An investigation into the cause of the mishap
is underway.
