Form 97-AR
Date: Sat, 01 Oct 2005

From: Joan Woodward, Animal Reaction Specialist
Subject: Newport, Delaware, summer 1981 (possibly 1980)

Cat: 4
To: NICAP

Animal Reaction Feature:

A dog who normally “barks at everything” made no sound  as a large, silent domed disc passed over the house.

The sighting:

At 6 PM On a clear night in a suburban setting, a woman and her daughters, 12 and 18, noticed colored lights as they left a store and drove home, where they apparently observed the object pass over their home.  They described a reflective silver domed disc with the center of the disc domed downward.  Red and red-orange lights were flashing on or near the rim.  It’s size was estimated as larger than their house, its lowest altitude at 500 feet or less, and its nearest distance between 100-500 feet away [but I would assume at the point the object passed over the house, it was then overhead relative to the dog—jw].  The object disappeared when they went inside to get their father, who would not wake up.

Case was investigated by telephone.  A newspaper article suggested an experimental aircraft had been seen.

No sound, no EM effects, and no physiological effects were reported.
