United Pilot
Sights 'Disc'
BOISE, (AP)—The crew of a
Seat-
tle-bound United Airlines
Mainliner
reported Monday night the
sighting
of a disc-like object iln
the sky between
Mountain Home and Boise
as the westbound
transport was
preparing to land here.
Capt. Charles K. Givian
and first
officer Jack Harvey
reported to the
Gowen field control tower
here
by radio that they had
sighted the
object at an approximate
altitude
of 9,010 feet as the
twin-engined
liner was flying at 7,500
feet over
the village of Mountain
Home, 45
miles east of here.
The transport was trip 105,
the
same trip from which, on
July 4,
came the report from
Capt. E. T.
Smith that he, his
copilot and ste-
wardess had seen nine
flying disc-
like objects over Emmett, west
of
Boise.
Smith's report
underscored a
flood of stories from
throughout the
nation concerning the
flying discs.
The flying disc reports
began late
in June when Kenneth
Arnold, a
Boise businessman-pilot,
told of
having seen nine of the
flat, round
objects flying in trail
between Mt.
Rainier and Mr. Adams in
Wash-
ington.
After Arnold told his
story, the
country was deluged with
flying
disc reports.
The CAA said no other
planes
were reported in the area
where
Givian Monday night said
he sighted
the disc.
