Yes, but what it underlines is the fact that he, and many others, were absolutely convinced they were real and controlled. The interpretation he had does not mean that the subject was ridden with misperceptions and misidentifications and therefore not of importance to researchers.

Not only that, but his interpretation was based on that conventional wisdom that existed in those days. What we know now 58 years later is reinforced by all these old declarations. If they were real and maneuverable THEN, and nothing has shown up in anybody's inventory to explain them, this is further evidence indicative of the ETH.
