Beginning at 2:30 a.m. unidentified blips showed up on the Weather Bureau's radar screen at the Municipal Airport and continued intermittently until after 6 a.m. Most of the sightings were in the vicinity of Wellington, Kansas. The altitude of the blips ranged from about 5,000 feet to 20,000 feet. At least four Wellington citizens told of seeing colored glows in the southern Kansas sky during the early morning hours.
