Earlier,
on 20 September 1947, the Coast Guard at San
Diego, Calif., were told
that a flaming object had fallen into the sea
off that coast, but no check of airports
revealed any missing liner or plane, and the
Observatory at Griffith Park did not think it was
any sort of meteor. Over I

uses the above text in his book but adds this
important information . . . : . . . Odd indeed, since it sounded very
much like a meteor, and this is normally
orthodoxy's first line of defense in such a case.
However, further inquiry elicited the fact
that the damned thing maneuvered,
and for some time, and had thereby considerably
