in 1968, entitled UFO HYPOTHESIS AND SURVIVAL QUESTIONS. "It is the
purpose of this monograph to
consider briefly some of the human survival implications suggested by
the various principal hypothesis concerning the nature of the phenomena
loosely categorized as U F O."
Early 1968; Canon AFB, NM 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. On one particular night glowing objects were spotted beyond the fence line of the base and in the distant perimeter. The staff at the Air Force Base pretty much ignored these lights on the first night, wondering if it was just someone playing around, or not thinking a whole lot about it. On the second night a couple of Military Security Police were up on the flight line when they observed an object above them and as they watched they saw a white beam of light came down from the object. The beam of light stayed and moved around the flight line. The Security Police were in a position to challenge the beam of light, and when they came near to it ... it skirted them. The light almost matched the Police Officers moves. The Police challenged the light on three different occasions only to have it move around them. Condon wrote to (Prof. Feliks) Zigel (Moscow Aviation Institute) to
explore the possibility of cooperation between
the reported Soviet and Colorado projects. Condon's letter was
transmitted to Prof. Zigel as an enclosure with a letter from Dr.
Frederick Seitz, President of the U. S. National Academy of Sciences,
to Academician M. V. Keldysh, President of the Soviet Academy of
Sciences for subsequent transmittal to Zigel. The letter was mailed on
16 January 1968; as of 31 October 1968, no answer had been received.

At the December 12 Colorado Project meeting, Saunders, Levine and Low's
Administrator,
Asst Mary Lou Armstrong were surprised to hear that McDonald knew about
the Low Memo, apparently from Keyhoe, so they decided to give him a
copy so he would at least know for certain exactly what it said and not
have to rely on hearsay. McDonald briefly mentioned the memo in
his own lengthy 7-page critique of the Project sent to Low himself on
Jan 31, 1968, and this is what got Saunders and Levine fired a week
later, on Feb. 8, 1968. Hypothesis About Unidentified

Serafim Vieira Sebastiao, a watchman at the Azores Air Station, saw "an oval object with a metallic gleam, topped by a glass tower with a small balustrade on which two beings were standing." There were two other figures inside the tower. When he shone a light toward it, a cloud of dust surrounded the witness, the craft vanished, and he fainted. Investigation by American military authorities. (Magonia #904; FSR 68, 5) Feb. 4, 1968; Redlands, CA (BBU) 7:20-7:25 p.m. (PST). Numerous witnesses Tetzlaff and others saw a 50-60 ft circular object with 7 lights on the bottom, 8-10 lights on top alternating in color, head NE [or ENE] for about 1 mile at about 300 ft altitude, hover, jerk forward, hover, shot up vertically, hover, wavered to the NW, climbed in altitude slightly, then shot off to the NW at high speed, disappearing. Bland noted animal disturbance drawing his attention to a 100 ft circular object about 300 350 ft away hovering about 20-25 ft above ground, lighting up ground, trees, cows, etc. Object had 7 yellowish-green lighted portholes about 2-2.5 ft wide in the center of each concave side (?), and made a whirring [or pulsating?] noise. second week of February,
1968, Roy Craig [a physical chemist on Dr. Condon's UFO Investigation
staff] flew to Washington to run the Neutron Activation Analysis [of
the magnesium fragment] at the FBI Laboratory. We learned that he had
some interesting results. The sample actually was not pure magnesium,
but the pattern of impurities was very odd. "

Witness felt "tingling sensations"; domed disc with ports maneuvered around farm, emitting high-pitched whine. Dog cowered in snow, cattle bolted (Section I, Vol. II, The UFO Evidence). Feb. 21, 1968; Winsted, CT 12:12 a.m. Ms. Cecilia Brewer and five companions were driving home from work between Barkhamsted and Winsted and heading west when their car's engine started to miss and they encountered a silvery domed disc-shaped UFO on the left side of the highway in a forest clearing. The object was at a distance of about 150 feet, and had a cone of white light coming from the bottom of the object. It also had a green lit, rectangular window in the dome. They stopped to watch the UFO before it flew away, the total duration of their close encounter being around 15 minutes. (Source: Donald A. Alleged crash/retrieval on the web, and earlier shown on the History Channel. Shows footage of the alleged crashed UFO near Berezovsky (Sverdlovsk region) in 1968 and related alleged KGB documents. March 3, 1968; Syracuse, NY 6:15 a.m. Nick Sgouris, while driving to work, observed a luminous, cigar-shaped object, about 20 m long, showing numerous multi-colored lights. The car almost stopped as the object flew low overhead, and the witness was briefly paralyzed. (Magonia #905; APRO Bulletin 67) March 3, 1968; Northeastern and Central United States About 9:50 P.M. An oval shaped light, red at the front (the direction of travel at the time), yellow in the middle and blue at the back was observed for a few passes, then moved off, silently and quickly to the north without gaining altitude, getting smaller until it was out of sight. But it wasn't over. Two interceptor jets came out of the west and roared over the witness heading north toward where the object disappeared. Jets were below 500 feet and on afterburner. State was enlisted to seek
information about UFO programs of the governments of other nations. On
11 April 1968 the cited air gram (see link above) was sent to various
American

Summer of 1968; Viet Nam In 1968, when I was an Intelligence Officer, I briefed General George S. Brown, at 7th Air Force Headquarters in Saigon, Vietnam about UFOs near the DMZ. General Brown states in a Department of Defense transcript of press conference in Illinois, October 16, 1973. "I don't know whether this story has ever been told or not. They weren't called UFOs." They were called enemy helicopters. And they were only seen at night and they were only seen in certain places. They were seen up around the DMZ in the summer of '68. And this resulted in quite a little battle. And in the course of this, an Australian destroyer took a hit and we never found any enemy, we only found ourselves when this had all been sorted out. And this caused some shooting there, and there was no enemy at all involved, but we always reacted. Always after dark. The same thing happened up at Pleiku at the Highlands in '69." Dr. Craig visited Dr. Peter M. Millman in Ottawa on 13 June l968. Dr.
Millman's major responsibility is as Head of Upper Atmosphere Research
of the National Research Council of Canada, but he also manages the
study of UFOs in Canada. Until the spring of 1968, the study of UFO
reports had been handled by the Department of National Defence in
Canada; it was transferred then to the National Research Council. Very
few field investigations are carried out; emphasis is mostly on the
maintenance of a central file of the reports that reach the government
from the public. (Condon Report)
Jun. 14, 1968; Mendiozaca (Argentina) 3:00 a.m. Jorge Yaru, 35, saw a strange light outside and a bright object, the size of a bus, 30 m away. It had yellow, green and red lights at the bottom. As he approached, the object rose suddenly, hovered for 40 min, and left at high speed. (Magonia #908; LDLN 95) June 14, 1968; Nr. Cabañas, Pinar Del Rio, Cuba After midnight. Several bursts of machine gun fire were heard coming from a location in the vicinity where militia member Isidro Puentes Ventura was on guard duty. At dawn, Puentes was found unconscious by an Army patrol and taken to a hospital in Pinar Del Rio, where he remained in shock and unable to speak for six days. Removed to the neurological ward at the Naval Hospital in Havana, Puentes was diagnosed to be suffering from emotional trauma, remaining in shock for another week. At the site where Puentes had been posted, Cuban and Soviet intelligence investigators found forty-eight spent cartridges and fourteen bullets apparently flattened by impact, as well as equally spaced indentations in the ground, indicating that a heavy device had landed. When Puentes recovered consciousness he reported that he had come to within 150 feet of a brilliant round object on the ground, with a dome and several antennas on top. Chief of Provincial Police German Rocha and Police Major Niceforo Leon observed a round object with a vivid blue light. It landed, left a strange, powerful odor, and burned grass and shrubs. (Magonia #909, FSR 68, 5) Night. A settler, Romulo Velasco, 25, saw a bright object land. From it emerged a strange "tall, slim being" who came toward the witness, who fainted. (Magonia #910, FSR 68, 5) June 21, 1968; Miramar, Argentina A man riding his bicycle encountered a large object, 50 cm above the ground. The top part was spinning, and it cast a vertical beam of red light toward the ground. Calcinations traces were found by police. (Magonia #911, LDLN 95) 1:05 a.m. Jorge Ribles, electrician at the Carmal Chemical Plant, noticed that the engines were at a standstill, while the countryside was lit up with intensive reddish light. Another man, 52-year-old Jose J. Rociski, fell unconscious as a vivid light enveloped him. He was unable to move his left arm for three days, and suffered from pain and extreme nervousness. A very bright metallic silver disc, reflecting sunlight, descended as if going down a flight of steps, then went strait over the nearby farm field very fast. Viewed about 10 seconds. (Page 31, Regional Encounters: The FC Files, Ridge) July 1, 1968; Ricardone, Argentina 4:00 a.m. Raul Calcedo met two giants, almost 3 m tall, in Ricardone. He fled in terror, in spite of a strange power that tended to make him stay. (Magonia #913, FSR 68, 5) July 1, 1968; Botucatu, Brazil 12:30 a.m. Three boys saw an object, about 8 m wide, 350 m away. It had a large tripod under carriage and a ladder reaching down to the ground. These devices were retracted, and the object rose a few meters, then flew off at high speed. (Magonia #914, FSR 68, 6) July 2, 1968; Cofico, Argentina 8:15 a.m. A boy, Sola, saw, a few meters away, a strange being, about 2.10 m tall, hovering in the air, his body emitting a peculiar glow, near a bright, unknown object. (Magonia #915, FSR 68, 5) 11:25 a.m. Oscar H. Iriart, 15, saw two men of normal height, with short, white hair and red clothes, semi-transparent legs, motioning to him. Near them was an elliptical, silvery machine, 2 m long, 60 cm high, with three 50 cm legs. The men gave him an envelope with a childish message and flew off. The witness's horse and dog were paralyzed for several minutes. The boy arrived home "like a madman." Two men in a car stopped to rest in a field after long drive. While driving into the field, with headlights on only long enough to avoid obstructions, they encountered a light. Shortly after, a large crimson red object hovered over trees. (MUJ, issue and page unknown) July 22, 1968; Mendoza, Argentina 1:20 a.m. Entities observed. Ms. Adela Casalvieri, night nurse at the Neuropsychiatry Hospital, heard a loud penetrating humming noise outside in the hospital courtyard. Going out to see what it was, she observed a saucer-shaped landed object only 20 meters away. It was brightly luminous and sitting in the middle of the courtyard. A luminous red beam came from the object and struck her, and she found that her legs were paralyzed. Putting her hands up to her face for protection she now found she was completely unable to move. She remained immobilized for a number of minutes until the red beam was extinguished. At this time the object ascended vertically, then flew off rapidly to the south barely clearing the wall that surrounded the courtyard. Before it disappeared she was able to observe several human-looking figures through square portholes that encircled the craft. These beings moved back and forth, passing each other, and were visible from the waist up only. Landing gear imprints were found at the landing site and several small potted trees had been burned. Mrs Casalvieri had first-degree burns on her face and hands, and parts of her nurse's cap and clothing were singed. 8:00 p.m. A woman staying by herself at a house on the outskirts of Mercedes heard a buzzing sound and her dogs began barking. Looking out she saw a brightly lit object that gave off bright flashes of light, sitting on the ground. Smaller lighted objects emerged from the object and hovered above the treetops. At one point one of the lighted objects silently approached the house. The witness then saw a second object on the ground from which the figure of a man wearing a brilliant silvery outfit was seen to emerge. Suddenly there was a brilliant reddish blue flash and the whole scene disappeared. The next day several ground traces were found in the same area where the objects were seen. (Albert S. Luminous white UFO emitted six smaller "satellite objects" (Section X, Vol. II, The UFO Evidence). Aug. 27, 1968; Lins, Brazil early. Maria Josa Cintra, who worked at the Clemente Ferreira Sanatorium, was awakened by a noise. At the front door was a "foreign-looking" woman of normal height, wearing light-colored clothes, and a headdress exposing only her face. She spoke in an unknown language, and handed Marie a mug and a glass bottle covered with beautiful engravings. Maria filled them. The woman said something such as "Rempaua," and went out to a pearl-shaped, bright object that took off with the sound of wings. (Magonia #918, FSR 69, 1) Aug. 31, 1968; Mendoza, Argentina Early. Three witnesses, among them two Casino employees, stated that they observed five dwarfs, with oversized heads, who emerged from a landed craft and traced undecipherable signs on the ground. (SRUFOS) Sept. 1, 1968; Mendoza, Argentina Huge circular object hovering nearby, three small humanoids. (Flying Saucer Review, Nov. 1968; see Rodeghier, 1981, p. 43 [E,L] car. Sept. 8, 1968; Evansville, IN 3:00 p.m. Single witness (confidential). Lady and her son were driving and talking. Her son didn't see the object and because she thought it was an advertising gimmick she never brought his attention to it. In fact, there was a loaded camera within reach. The object is best described as looking very detailed like a long burner in a gas furnace, horizontal to the observer. It didn't look to be very far away (1/4 mile or more) and the witness said it didn't look big enough to hold an upright man. (See drawing, Regional Encounters: The FC Files, pg. 27) Sept. 15, 1968; W of Cross City to 12 miles W of Ocala, FL (BBU 12498) 9:30 p.m. [12:31 a.m.?] Missionary pilot Ray [Jay?] Cole, flying a Twin Beech C45H twin engine utility plane at 9,500 ft heading 120° at 200 mph true airspeed, with a pilot passenger Ray Rushing, saw a white [?] light with pale green light flashing less than once per sec at their flight level, moving up and down vertically by about 500-1,000 ft for 15 mins maintaining distance then turned right about 10° climbed at a 15° angle until vanishing when 12 miles out from Ocala. 2nd light, very bright white also flashing pale green and at about 5,000 ft height, then suddenly appeared on a collision course, made a 90° turn at about 2 miles away and 500 ft below, then descended and receded to about 15 miles away and disappeared with distance to the W of Ocala. Sept. 30, 1968; Louisville, KY 1:00 a.m. Commercial pilot, Dogie Stockmar, and four passengers observed a light source with 2-3 beams toward ground. One beam was longer than the others. Lights pulsated. At first it seemed like a bright star, then began moving west. It then dropped down to plane's level, then descended to a restricted area near the Louisville airport and went out. Boston Bar and Yale, B.C. 3:00 a.m. The first sighting took place in the Fraser Canyon between Boston Bar and Yale in an area where the Canyon is quite deep. <snip> There was no other traffic on the road at the time and as the witnesses were driving along, one said "what is that strange light in the canyon below". They pulled over and both got out and looked down into the canyon. What they saw was very strange as there seemed to be a fog or mist in the canyon and inside the fog they could make out a luminous, sort of translucent oval light source that was probably several hundred feet long and hovering above the Fraser River. Three beings were standing on a platform under the craft, and another figure appeared to be using a keyboard inside the transparent top part. 3:30 a.m. (CDT). USAF Minot AFB ground radar tracked unidentified object correlated with orange glow and radioed it to the attention of the USAF crew of B-52H bomber (call sign JAG 31) on a 290° heading at 2,000 ft as a UFO target at 1 o'clock position to the NW at 24 miles, then 15 miles at 3:35 a.m. At 3:52 a.m., Minot radioed the B-52H that base weather radar was also tracking target now at 1 o'clock position and 3 miles from the B-52H. At 3:58 Minot requested IFF transponder identification from the B-52H and the B-52H radio transmitter failed for 4 mins. B-52H crew saw and radar tracked bright red-orange object [?] at 9 o'clock position at 35 miles then 1.25-1.5 miles, traveling at 3,000 mph [?]. UFO landing for 45 mins at location "AA-43." UFO sightings at Minuteman ICBM nuclear missile sites N, O, J [?], and M Flights, 91st Strategic Missile Wing, including strange EM effects such as security alarms activated at outer and inner rings around silo, outer [silo?] door opened and combination lock of inner door moved. Witnesses included Maj. Bradford Runyon, Capt. Robert Salas, S/Sgt Bond, S/Sgt Smith, et al. (Project 1947; Kevin Randle; Hynek UFO Rpt pp. 137-9 [misdated as 1966]; etc.) Oct. 26, 1968; Greenfield, IN 10:00 p.m. Witnesses: Mr. & Mrs. R. E. Foster. While driving near Greenfield, they saw UFO come to rest on road about two miles ahead of them. It rose up and landed two or three times, and when the car reached the landing site on the road, car lights went out for half a minute or more in each place. He saw two luminous objects outside his house, and observed them coming close together and merging about 180 m away. A vertical beam of light was aimed at him for a second as the object tilted, and then the display vanished with a flash, leaving a slowly dissolving cloud. Persistent nightmares and various physiological phenomena were later recorded. Beam retracted slowly like a ladder to a fuzzy scintillating main light, oval-shaped yellowish-white about 100 [or 120-150?] ft wide, which then changed to brighter reddish-orange, rose vertically disappearing in less than 15 secs.
