| INVESTIGATOR's REPORT Fran Ridge, Investigator CASE: BUFKIN INCIDENT AFTER MADAR ANOMALY; NOV 1, 1973 At 21:47 hours (9:47 p.m.) on the first of November the MADAR site at Mt. Vernon, Indiana detected an anomaly. This came as a definite and unexplained compass heading change. The background radiation level was 18 cpm, which was normal for the area About an hour later at the tiny community of Bufkin, Indiana, just 5 miles NE of the MADAR site (10:40 p.m.) a male witness called the UFO hotline at the UFO Filter Center (also at the Mt. Vernon site) and reported that a blue and green object with a humming noise had been observed for about 10 minutes. The object had maneuvered, back and forth, first from west to east, then north to south, and moving up and down. It was last seen by security guards to the south at the Meade Johnson Plant just east of at Mt. Vernon near highway 62. The report was one of many coming in to the Center during the wave of 1973, all of which were recorded on a 7" VM reel-to-reel recorder. The encounter range for the Bufkin sighting was determined by the humming noise reported. (UFOFC, Ridge files, FI-4) . |
