Classification of Close Encounter is usually
an incident involving an object less than 500
feet from the witness. The size of the
object, viewing conditions, or
stereoscopic vision (depth perception)
may render the object in greater detail and
still qualify the sighting as a Close
Encounter even though the object may have been
beyond 500'. The incident depicted in
the logo was encountered during an intense
storm near Princeton, IN, Aug. 1973. |

3:30 AM. Two young men (ages 18-25) were sitting in a pickup truck in the residential part of the city. They heard a noise that sounded like a semi truck, but ignored it. As the sound grew louder one of them men screamed for the other to turn around and look. They both then saw what appeared to be a blimp coming from behind a tree. They soon realized it was no blimp as it was much longer than a blimp and it had no means of propulsion. It just floated at about 3 mph from behind a tree and then behind a house. The object had to be at least 55' in length and about 6' in total diameter. and in the south to southwest at first as the object floated southeast. They viewed it for at least 15-seconds. It then turned south, and as it turned directly south it disappeared. The shape as drawn is very unusual and reminds one of the old X-15 rocket plane, with more of the stubby horizontal and vertical stabilizers and short dorsal fins on top and bottom. The object had fins in other locations, and the rear of the object was not visible, but behind a tree. Detailed reports and documents 860906_Detailed report (Fran Ridge) Case file folder |
