A Hynek
Classification of Distant Encounter is usually
an incident involving an object more than 500
feet from the witness. At night it is
classified as a "nocturnal light" (NL) and
during the day as a "daylight disc" (DD). The
size of the object or the viewing conditions
may render the object in greater detail but
yet not qualify the sighting as a Close
Encounter which is an object within
500'. |
Brad Sparks: July 17, 1948; 5 miles S of San Acacia Dam, New
Mexico (BBU)
4:50 p.m. Two Kirtland AFB Sgts. on a fishing trip
with their families saw a group of seven aluminum
circular possibly spherical objects approach from the
South at 20,000 feet, pass overhead at 1,500 mph
if the altitude was correct (5°/sec angular
velocity), at first appearing like snub-nosed jet
fighters of unknown type, shifting from V formation to
L formation to circular formation to no regular
formation, at which point a regular pulsating flashing
light appeared in the group at 30° from zenith to
the N, and at this oblique angle the objects did not
appear circular. No noise or trail. (FOIA) [10-30
secs?]
