Sparks: Jan. 18, 1956; Itazuke AFB, Japan (BBU)
1 [10?] a.m. Air crew sighting of white round
balloon-shaped object traveling at high speed, no
trail. (Project 1947; FUFOR Index)
Dan Wilson: Jan. 18, 1956; Itazuke, Japan (BBU)
10 a.m. local time. A white round object was seen
by Capt. Edward J. Owens seated in the left seat and
Lt. Richard Wilder seated right of aircraft Center 40.
The object was directly over the aircraft and had the
apparent motion of moving fast on a southerly heading
in the opposite direction of the aircraft. The length
of observation varied by witness from 15 to 45
seconds. Estimates of height above aircraft from
1,000' to 5,000'.
Fran Ridge: Nothing in this official documented report, that I can see, suggests anything other than a balloon explanation. (Rating 1+) Detailed reports and documents reports/560118itazuke_report.htm (Dan Wilson) |
