Monthly Update
Multiple Anomaly Detection & Automated Recording

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NOVEMBER 2022 ISSUE

NO UPDATE LAST MONTH
Due to pressing issues, in particular the release of the updated MATCH Directive in the October issue of the MUFON UFO Journal, we did not have an update last month.

NEWEST MADAR SITES

Our newest MADAR site is site 216 at Omaha, Nebraska, operated by Karen Kempkes. This gives us two sites in Omaha, the other being node 132. Node 215 at Wanneroo, WA, Australia being operated by Peter Croser, is our second site in Australia. Pennsylvania now has 5 sites running with site 214 located at Bloomburg, and operated by Jason Albertson. The MADAR Network currently operates in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Philippines, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The program has 148 sites and presently, 50, or 34% are now DAS-equipped, which means the site teams can be alerted by an alarm system, go out and gather more data with selected equipment. The project has 200 members.

BUT WHAT IS NEXT?
I spend  alot of time talking about what we are doing, where we came from. What i would like to do now is spend a little time on what is next and why? Many of our ops and would-be ops have asked me, why don't we have a geiger counter built into MADAR? One of the reasons is we have been embarrisingly successful and therefore busier than we ever dreamed. Plus there is, and has been, a severe parts shortage, so just doing the normal things has become more difficult and has created new issues. And with the new issues there are obstacles that keep us from moving further ahead, even after four years in "the business" (2018-2022). We don't have the IT power we had when we began work on the new MADA-III project 6 years ago. We have to remedy that. We need a few more IT specialists, not only to speed things up but to give us the needed security as we all get a little older. Back to the subject of geiger counters, if they are to be worth using, they won't be able to be jammed into the current MADAR enclosure. Those that are using the recommended geiger counter GMC-500 have it online and it is storing data on the company's server. But if somebody gets a really good anomaly on MADAR and we find a good sighting correlation, one has to go to the GMC-500 site and look at the data. It would be far much better to have the GMC-500 plugged into one of the USB ports on MADAR and have the data stored on OUR server and lined up on our spreadsheets with the current field, onboard compass and accelerometer data. One glance would tell the story and the printout would very effectually document the correlation in Universal Time Code.

Background radiation has been an important-enough factor to include in the instrumentation plans and MADAR. The original story was brought out by Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt in his book, "The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects".

My A-Team created a very detailed folder on the NICAP site, but some of the NARA links are down.
