RADCAT is a revitalized special project now being conducted jointly by NICAP & Project 1947 with the help and cooperation of the original compiler of RADCAT, Martin Shough, to create a comprehensive listing of radar cases with detailed documentation from all previous catalogues, including UFOCAT and original RADCAT.

Patuxent River NAS Radar Incident
Dec. 19, 1964
Patuxent River NAS, Maryland

June 2002, updated: 11 March 2010, 7 Feb 2012
Brad Sparks:
Dec. 19, 1964; Patuxent River NAS, Maryland (BBU)
3:30 a.m. USN control tower operator Bernard Sujka and 2 other CTO's tracked 2 large target 10 miles apart heading directly toward the radar station at about 7,000 mph, swerving off at 15 miles range, then approaching again to 10 miles, then one target returned to 8 miles range and made a high speed 160° turn. (NICAP)

Fran Ridge:
Investigated by Richard Hall and testimony by controller Bernard Sujka, testimony witnessed by both Hall and Don Berliner. Case appears to be interference [Shough]. Currently rated as "0" (see preliminary rating code above). A former field investigator with our Indiana NICAP Subcommittee was stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, MD at the time of the incident, and  sent word of the incident to us in January. (Note: This case was not included in the UFO EVIDENCE.)

Dr. James E. McDonald:
Interference not clearly enough ruled out. Radials suggest it, as does lack of corresponding return on long-range set and absence of similar returns on other stations.

Jan Aldrich:
Patuxent has interest in an historic context. The Navy allowed the radar operator to fill out a report for NICAP. It came at a time when NICAP could exploit it in the media. Hall left a number of such cases which NICAP had featured in other publications out of the UFO Evidence. He used many cases he thought supported UFOs being of interest for an independent investigation or leads and incomplete cases which meeded follow up.
